Like many of the cultural neighborhoods in Boston, Chelsea is populated with a lot of different Hispanic groups. This means great food, at a great price. This one-block stretch of Broadway alone has several restaurants, a GREAT bakery (Tito's!), and a few little cultural and convenience stores.

Los Amigos seemed intimidating for someone whose Spanish now, I admit, totally sucks. Their cuisine is South American, with a heavy Salvadorian influence. The dining room was small (think local pizzaria), and a very low-key setup whose centerpiece is a 40' flatscreen that was playing telenovelas all through lunch (to my entertainment because they are so much like the Filipino soap operas my grandma enjoys still).

Fear be gone; the waitress was really nice, the menu had pictures and was in Spanish AND English. Breakfast, and lunch/dinner dishes available all day. Something crazy like 95 things on the menu, though its really only 30-40 dishes with pieces interchanged.

I ordered a HUGE plate of a 6' in diameter pork chop, well seasoned and in a light barbeque sauce, with steamed vegetables (way oversalted), fries, and a fried egg (?)..for $12. Definitely enough for leftovers!! Score! But then..I forgot it in my co-workers car! :'-(

My co-worker ordered a large bowl of tomato stew with tripe, potatoes, carrots, corn. It also came with tortillas and a small bowl of rice cooked with vegetables. That was $7 I think. Also a small quesadilla that came with potatoes -$5. She also had a non-alcoholic bottled sangria.

So it sounds like I had a great time, why the 3 stars? Well, I would've done a 3.5 but Yelp doesn't let you. I'm taking off a point for location; I'm not really ever in Chelsea much, and its T accessible only really by bus.

The other star is deducted because I am writing this review home with a stomach problem, the morning after I ate there. Now listen; my food there was NOT undercooked and did NOT seem unfresh in any way, so it is probably not the culprit; I did eat other things yesterday. Unfortunately, the result is that I have a more negative association with anything I ate yesterday.

3.5 stars; Los Amigos Restaurant was good, and worth trying.
